How we verify a listing
A listing says what the restaurant's own site said, on a date we show. This page explains what counts as a source, how price and winter status are decided, and when entries are re-checked.
What counts as a source
A restaurant is listed only if its own website, or a reservation page it runs, confirms that it exists and shows current information. We do not take hours or addresses from review sites, social posts or other directories. When a website is expired, parked, broken or shows a closing notice from a past season, the restaurant stays out until we can confirm it.
What we copy
- Address and phone, exactly as published.
- Hours, copied as posted and labeled "as posted" with the check date.
- Season statements, such as "open year round" or a posted closing date.
- Menu prices, only for dishes we name, quoted from the posted menu.
- The reservation platform linked from the site, and any deposit or cancellation rule it states.
How price signs are set
The sign comes from the main-course prices on the menu we read on the check date.
| Sign | Band | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| $ | Cheap eats | Most mains under $20 |
| $$ | Moderate | Most mains $20 to $35 |
| $$$ | Upscale | Most mains $36 to $55 |
| $$$$ | Splurge | Most mains over $55 |
A restaurant with no posted menu prices gets no sign rather than a guess.
How "open in winter" is decided
A restaurant is marked open in winter only when its own site says it is open year-round or posts winter hours. A restaurant that is open now with fall hours but has not posted a winter schedule is marked "winter not confirmed". Operators often announce winter schedules in November and December, so the winter list is the page most likely to change between checks. Right now 8 of 37 listings are marked open or reduced in winter.
How often we re-check
Every entry is re-read twice a year: in May, before the summer season opens, and in October, as places announce closings and winter hours. The last full check was October 28, 2026; the next is May 2027. Between checks, corrections sent to hello@eathamptons.com are confirmed against the restaurant's site and dated individually.
What we leave out
We leave out ratings, reviews, awards, photos of specific businesses and anything we cannot source. Dishes appear only when they are on a menu we read. Where a restaurant publishes no price or hours, the page says so.
